Overview

  • BVG laid the foundation stone at Säntisstraße in Marienfelde for its first fully electric bus depot, marking the first new facility since the 1960s and set to open in 2027 with space for 220 e-buses.
  • The Marienfelde site will include 209 charging points up to 150 kW, nine 450 kW ultrafast chargers, a substation, twelve inverter stations and nine charging masts delivered by ARGE BVG Säntis.
  • Construction has also begun on a second electric depot at Köpenicker Landstraße in Schöneweide, which is due to accommodate 200 buses and be operational by 2027.
  • BVG expects to receive 150 Solaris electric articulated buses in 2026 and 120 more in 2027, boosting its e-bus fleet to 550 vehicles—over one-third of its 1,500-bus network.
  • The operator has shifted its full fleet electrification goal into the early 2030s and is testing hydrotreated vegetable oil in newer diesel buses as a stopgap before targeting 80–90 percent battery operation by 2035.
