Overview
- Officers initiated a traffic stop near the northbound I-5 Buena Vista Street on-ramp around 6:40 p.m., police said.
- An armed passenger fled into a nearby neighborhood where K-9 Spike located him and was shot multiple times.
- Spike was taken to an emergency veterinarian and died of his injuries, according to Burbank police.
- The search became a joint Burbank–Glendale operation with a helicopter, additional K-9 units, SWAT and crisis negotiators.
- During the standoff the suspect opened fire, striking police vehicles, officers shot and killed him, a handgun was recovered, and parts of northbound I-5 remained closed during the investigation.
