Bungie Launches Formal Destiny 2 Unvaulting Program With Early‑2028 Target

Restoring removed campaigns is meant to rebuild player trust as Bungie incubates broader franchise projects.

Overview

  • In a community update published Oct. 29, Bungie said pre-production for the unvaulting program is now underway and shared a public progress bar to track work.
  • The studio’s first pass will restore core campaigns—the Red War, Forsaken, Curse of Osiris and Warmind—plus their strikes, raids and raid lairs, and the Menagerie activity with reprised rewards.
  • Bungie expects pre-production to run through January or February 2027 and estimates roughly 12 months of full production for porting and content work, placing earliest broad delivery in early 2028.
  • The company listed clear limits: it currently has no path to update New Light, seasonal story missions, the Kell’s Grave Gambit map, or some seasonal hubs and said those items are out of scope for now.
  • Bungie ties the program to repairing community trust and to Marathon’s future, has three incubating franchise ‘anchors’ (Destiny 2 Celebration, Destiny Legacy, and a redacted project), and promises a new progress update in February 2027.
