Bungie Details Star Wars–Inspired Destiny 2: Renegades, Launching December 2

The studio presents an in-canon collaboration with Lucasfilm designed to reengage players after months of declining activity.

Overview

  • A developer stream and ViDoc outlined core additions including the Praxic Blade, a kinetic Exotic sword with meaningful customization, and a new Blaster weapon archetype that uses a heat system instead of magazines.
  • Renegades adds the Lawless Frontier activity with Syndicate faction Notoriety, mission types like Smuggling, Bounty Hunts, and Sabotage, an opt-in Invasion feature, and new maps on Mars, Europa, and Venus with the Tharsis Outpost social space.
  • Bungie confirmed the Equilibrium dungeon arrives on December 13 with a day-one race stream, and it previewed new Exotics such as the Heirloom Solar crossbow, Service of Luzaku Strand machine gun, and class-specific armor pieces.
  • Narrative director Alison Lührs said Bungie and Lucasfilm aligned on tone to keep the release canonical to Destiny, asking "What’s the bad version of this?" to avoid a one-off crossover feel.
  • Separately, multiple leakers report that Destiny 3 is in "extremely early" development, which Bungie has not confirmed, and a social media claim that Renegades concept art used AI is being contested.
