Bundeswehr Begins Berlin Urban Warfare Exercise With Night U‑Bahnhof Training

The drills seek to sharpen readiness for national and alliance defense given Europe’s heightened security risks.

Overview

  • The Wachbataillon is running the Bollwerk Bärlin III exercise from November 17–21 across Berlin and Brandenburg, with activities beginning today.
  • Training focuses on urban and subterranean operations including movement in tunnels, clearing traffic routes, transporting forces, handling casualties and detaining saboteurs at Jungfernheide, Ruhleben’s police site and the former Rüdersdorf chemical works.
  • Night operations at U‑Bahnhof Jungfernheide are scheduled for November 18–20 from 1:00 to 4:00 a.m., with simulated snipers present for scenario depiction and no live ammunition used.
  • Residents should expect increased military vehicles, possible detours and marked convoys that must not be interrupted; convoy vehicles carry blue flags with a green flag on the last vehicle.
  • The Bundeswehr says activities are conducted under strict safety measures in coordination with Berlin authorities, and BVG foresees no station closures during the exercises.
