Bundespolizei Helicopter Formation Training Nears Finish With Kassel Stopover, Friday Return

The flights cap the final phase of a 22-month course leading to pilot licensing in December.

  • Thirteen helicopters from the 44th training cohort staged at Kassel Airport on Thursday and were parked overnight, with departure to Sankt Augustin scheduled for Friday.
  • The multi-day route published by the Bundespolizei included stops over Gifhorn, Hamburg, Fuhlendorf, Barth, Neubrandenburg, Blumberg and Bautzen before reaching Calden.
  • In Bautzen on Thursday, at least six federal helicopters and one state police machine landed around midday before resuming formation flight.
  • The trainees are sworn police officers from several Länder, including four women, taking part in an operations-focused formation flying program.
  • Graduates are expected to receive their licenses in December after completing the 22-month course at the Sankt Augustin police aviation school and then join federal or state flight units.
