Buffalo Psychiatric Center Patient Charged in Stabbing of Three Staff Members

The suspect, previously involved in a similar attack, is in custody as victims receive treatment.

Three staff members were critically injured in a stabbing incident at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center by a patient, Calvin Haskins, who has a history of violent behavior.
The attack occurred on Wednesday morning inside the Strozzi Building, which houses the center’s inpatient services and lacks metal detectors.
Haskins faces charges including first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, with his arraignment scheduled for Thursday.
The victims, two men and a woman, are in stable condition after receiving emergency medical treatment at Erie County Medical Center.
The Office of Mental Health is reviewing the incident and has made trauma response and support available to staff, patients, and others affected.
