Overview
- Argentina’s meteorological service (SMN) placed CABA under an orange alert from Dec. 31 at 00:20 to Jan. 1 at 00:20 for extreme temperatures.
- Forecasts cited highs around 37–39°C across the central region, with peaks near 40°C in spots such as Rosario, 39°C in Buenos Aires and 38°C in Córdoba.
- The SMN kept yellow heat alerts active across much of the center, including Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, La Pampa, San Luis, Neuquén, Río Negro, Mendoza and Santiago del Estero.
- Separate SMN yellow advisories warned of storms for west Jujuy, Misiones, east San Juan, northwest San Luis and northeast Mendoza, and strong southern winds for south Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego.
- Relief is expected as temperatures drop by roughly 10°C starting Jan. 1–2 in AMBA and central areas, contrasting with Spain’s year‑end chill where AEMET flagged falling minima and frosts in the Madrid Sierra.
