Buenos Aires to Close Carlos Gardel Subte Station for Two-Month Overhaul Starting Aug. 25

The closure forms part of SBASE’s renewal plan with upgrades for accessibility, lighting, signage, new floors, waterproofing, plus mural restoration.

Overview

  • Carlos Gardel on Line B will shut from Monday, August 25, for roughly two months to modernize infrastructure under the city’s station upgrade program.
  • Works include waterproofing with injection and joint treatment, full floor replacement, new LED lighting, refreshed signage, braille indicators on handrails and portals, and new platform furniture.
  • Interventions will cover entrances, stair galleries, concourses and platforms to improve passenger circulation, comfort and brightness.
  • Ten murals in concourses and on platforms will be restored by professional conservators to protect the station’s heritage.
  • Plaza Italia on Line D remains closed for remodeling as the plan advances, following upgrades already completed at eleven stations and thirteen Premetro stops, with additional works and tenders moving forward.
