Buenos Aires Province Votes Sunday in First Split Legislative Elections in 42 Years

Voters will use traditional party ballots as more than 14 million people, including over one million foreign residents, choose legislators and local officials with first results expected after 21:00.

Overview

  • Polling stations open from 8:00 to 18:00, voting is compulsory for ages 18–70 with typical fines of ARS 1,000–2,000 for unjustified absence, and is optional for 16–17-year-olds and those over 70.
  • Half of the Legislature is at stake: 46 provincial deputies and 23 senators, along with municipal concejales and consejeros escolares, elected across eight sections that alternate between deputies and senators.
  • Buenos Aires will vote with the traditional boleta sábana, while the national October 26 election will use the Boleta Única de Papel, a key reason officials separated the provincial and national dates.
  • The Junta Electoral will release provisional results from 21:00 only after at least 30% of mesas are loaded in each section, with the populous First and Third sections drawing particular attention.
  • Parties frame the contest as a national bellwether, with Fuerza Patria and La Libertad Avanza (in alliance with PRO in several sections) leading the field and Somos Buenos Aires and the FIT-U seeking space.
