Buenos Aires Opens New SAME Base in Once, Adds Mobile Command Center and Electric Tactical Unit

Officials say the upgrade targets faster responses in dense neighborhoods via real-time triage using an electric support unit.

Overview

  • The City inaugurated SAME’s 30th base at Catamarca and Moreno with a modular facility that includes dormitories, a kitchen, bathrooms, a living area and an administrative office.
  • The Once base fields two ambulances available 24 hours a day, each staffed by a driver, a physician and a radio operator working in shifts.
  • A mobile command center was introduced to lead on-scene triage and coordinate units during incidents with multiple victims using real-time data.
  • The new tactical, intelligent, electric unit (UTIe) carries solar panels, onboard computers linked to hospitals for patient routing and rescue gear including immobilization boards and a defibrillator.
  • Coverage is aimed at high-demand areas such as Balvanera, Almagro, Monserrat, Caballito and Parque Patricios, bringing the network to 30 bases under a system that reports an average five-minute response time and a fleet of about 110 vehicles and two helicopters.
