Buenos Aires Lights Citywide Holiday Displays at the Obelisco as Argentina’s Season Begins

The Dec. 8 tree‑assembly tradition marks the kickoff of celebrations across Argentina.

Overview

  • Buenos Aires inaugurated its festive program with a public ceremony at the Obelisco featuring a show by Fer Dente, four students activating the lights, and a mapping projection set to repeat on Dec. 24 from 21:00 to 02:00.
  • City decorations will run through Jan. 7, 2026, with 17 Christmas trees across the 15 comunas plus ornaments along major avenues and plazas.
  • CABA’s offer includes a Paseo Navideño in Plaza Sicilia in Palermo with a light garden, a Christmas market, and symphonic performances by ensembles such as Camerata Bariloche and the Teatro Colón Academic Orchestra.
  • The campaign “Compartí tus deseos en Navidad” deploys a restored historic mailbox starting Dec. 10, touring Comuna 13 (Dec. 10–12), Comuna 6 (Dec. 15–17) and Comuna 15 (Dec. 18–20) for letters to Santa.
  • Cities across the country also lit their emblematic trees, including Rosario, Córdoba, Salta and Mar del Plata; Córdoba’s 100‑meter Faro uses individually controllable Pixel RGBW LEDs, and Rosario merchants reported strong Dec. 8 sales with an average ticket of 20,000 pesos on calle San Luis.
