Overview

  • The Buenos Aires Legislature formally approved the suspension of the 2025 PASO, consolidating elections into two rounds on September 7 and October 26.
  • The suspension was passed in the Chamber of Deputies with over two-thirds support, following earlier Senate approval on April 16.
  • Governor Axel Kicillof proposed extending deadlines for candidate list submissions to 70 days before elections and ballot presentations to 50 days, citing logistical challenges.
  • The provincial Electoral Board recommended a compromise schedule of 50 days for candidate lists and 30 days for ballots, warning that current deadlines are unfeasible for verifying over 10,000 candidates.
  • Supreme Court President Hilda Kogan convened an urgent meeting with legislative leaders to discuss the revised deadlines, but no agreement has been reached yet.
