Buenos Aires Begins Construction on Long-Delayed Puerto Madero Ferris Wheel

Privately funded site preparation at Dique 1 has begun with perimeter fencing to launch a 15-month construction schedule closing in mid-2026.

Overview

  • The city government issued all key authorizations, including public space occupancy, project plan registration, tourism interest declaration and civil works permits.
  • An environmental hearing by the Buenos Aires protection agency confirmed the wheel will generate no noise, hazardous waste or impacts on traffic and air navigation.
  • Concessionaire RDBA S.A. is financing the project entirely with private funds and will pay an annual fee to the Corporación de Planeamiento Metropolitano.
  • Preliminary works have kicked off with a perimeter fence securing the site at Dique 1, marking the formal start of construction.
  • The 79-meter wheel will carry up to 288 passengers in 36 climate-controlled cabins atop a reinforced 1,100 m² concrete platform.
