Budgam Police Attach Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Headquarters in Srinagar Under UAPA

The move extends a sustained UAPA-led push to dismantle separatist infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.

Overview

  • Officers attached a three-storey building at Rehmatabad, Hyderpora, identified as Tehreek-e-Hurriyat’s head office on a 1 kanal 1 marla plot recorded as Khasra No. 946 and Khata No. 306.
  • The action was executed under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with FIR No. 08/2024 registered at Police Station Budgam, following approval from the competent authority.
  • Police installed an attachment notice at the site and said the step advances an ongoing investigation into unlawful and subversive activities, with further legal measures continuing.
  • Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was founded in 2004 by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and has been banned under UAPA, with the group described as largely defunct after the deaths and jailing of senior leaders.
  • Some reports say the Hyderpora property is owned by the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, a claim reported by outlets such as The Asian Age and not uniformly corroborated elsewhere.
