Overview
- Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha landed in India with the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha after their public veneration in Elista from October 11 to 18.
- The exposition at the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni was organised by India’s Ministry of Culture with the International Buddhist Confederation, the National Museum and the IGNCA.
- Recognised in coverage as a National Treasure of India, the relics were showcased to strengthen people-to-people links with Kalmykia’s Buddhist community.
- Sinha urged a global commitment to compassion, equality and moral integrity, and cast the outreach as reinforcing long-standing India–Russia ties.
- The relics were initially brought by a delegation led by Keshav Prasad Maurya, welcomed by senior Kalmyk officials, and the visit also saw Kalmyk State University and Nalanda University agree to collaborate on academic exchanges.
