Buddha Air Flight Overruns Bhadrapur Runway, All 55 Aboard Safe

The airline dispatched a technical team to examine the lightly damaged aircraft, which remains at the airport overnight ahead of a planned return to Kathmandu.

Overview

  • Flight 901 from Kathmandu skidded on landing at Bhadrapur around 9:08 pm local time and overshot the runway by about 200 metres.
  • The aircraft came to a halt in a grassy area near a rivulet, and officials reported no injuries.
  • All 51 passengers and four crew were evacuated, according to Tribhuvan airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa and Jhapa Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal.
  • Buddha Air said the plane would be assessed on site after completing the final KathmanduBhadrapur sector of the day.
  • Local reports identified the pilot as Sailesh Limbu, and no cause for the overrun has been reported.
