Overview

  • On July 9, Charles and Queen Camilla hosted a reception for tour artists ahead of the public opening on July 10
  • The display features 74 works selected by the King from over 300 pieces commissioned on 70 state visits across 95 countries since 1985
  • Highlights include Charles’s own 1985 Britannia watercolour painted alongside John Ward and the debut of Fraser Scarfe’s digital iPad sketch of Ravenna’s Basilica of San Vitale
  • Artists were given freedom to depict personal impressions despite tight itineraries, security protocols and limited time at each stop
