BT Adds Bharti’s Sunil Mittal and Gopal Vittal to Board as Shares Slip

The move stems from Bharti’s 24.5% stake, granting board representation under a pre-agreed pact.

Overview

  • BT appointed Sunil Bharti Mittal and Gopal Vittal as non-independent non-executive directors as nominated representatives of Bharti Televentures UK Ltd.
  • Mittal will also join BT’s nominations committee.
  • The relationship agreement entitles Bharti to two board seats while its stake remains at or above 20%, falling to one seat if it drops to between 10% and 20%.
  • Bharti became BT’s largest shareholder after buying a 24.5% holding from Patrick Drahi’s Altice UK in August 2024 for about $4 billion.
  • BT shares fell by around 3% in early London trading following the announcement.
