BSW’s Sabine Zimmermann to Step Down as Saxony Parliamentary Leader at Year’s End

She says a serious illness earlier this year prompted her decision to resign.

Overview

  • Zimmermann announced she will give up the BSW parliamentary-group chair and her Saxony Landtag seat at the end of the year.
  • She said the illness at the start of the year showed her limits and took much of her strength, leading her to withdraw from active politics.
  • A successor for the parliamentary-group leadership has not been decided, according to faction spokesperson Ines Schwarze.
  • At a Bautzen state party congress last weekend, delegates elected Jörg Scheibe and Ronny Kupke to the Saxony party executive after Zimmermann did not run again.
  • Kupke also serves as deputy parliamentary-group leader, and the BSW holds 15 seats in the Saxony Landtag as the third-largest faction.
