Overview

  • On June 14, 29-year-old Constable Shivam Kumar Mishra shot 55-year-old Head Constable Ratan Lal Singh at the Samserganj camp in Murshidabad
  • The dispute that led to the shooting stemmed from Singh’s refusal to grant Mishra leave to visit his pregnant wife
  • Mishra fired 13 rounds from his INSAS service rifle, several of which struck Singh in the abdominal region
  • Singh was declared dead on arrival at the Jangipur sub-divisional hospital after local doctors were unable to stop the bleeding
  • Mishra was arrested by Samserganj police, remanded in judicial custody, and the BSF has ordered a formal court of inquiry
