Bryansk Corruption Cases: Appeals Pending as Court Extends Detention of Ex–Deputy Governor to December 13

The July sentences have not taken legal effect pending delivery of the appellate case files to the regional court.

Overview

  • A Bryansk court extended pretrial detention for former deputy governor Sergei Timoshenko and his son Anton until 13 December 2025, the regional courts’ press service said.
  • Sergei Timoshenko is charged with two counts under Part 6, Article 290 of the Criminal Code, with investigators alleging more than 4 million rubles in benefits, some routed through his son as intermediary.
  • Former deputy governors Elena Egorova and Tatyana Kuleshova have appealed their July convictions; an initial appeal was returned in August for formal defects, a new one was accepted in September, and the files have not yet reached the appellate court.
  • In July, Egorova and Kuleshova each received nine years in prison with fines of 8.1 million and 10 million rubles, while businesswoman Valentina Avtushenko and intermediary Yevgeniya Matveyeva received eight and seven years and 4.4 million ruble fines, with Matveyeva’s sentence deferred due to a child.
  • Avtushenko and Matveyeva also filed appeals, and the case centers on alleged bribes tied to education equipment contracts and an air-sterilizer supply deal investigated by the Investigative Committee.
