Overview
- Matthew Alexander, 31, of Topsham became stuck up to his waist while retrieving ducks at Wharton's Point on Maquoit Bay and called 911.
- Brunswick officers reached him using the department's Marine Resource Unit airboat and pulled him free by breaking the mud's suction.
- He was transported to Mid Coast Hospital for evaluation due to prolonged exposure to ocean water and was later released.
- Police said Alexander permitted the use of his name in their news release and officers also recovered the ducks he had shot.
- Authorities warned that coastal mud flats can conceal 'honey pots' that act like quicksand and that movement can make a person sink deeper.
