Bruins Send Jeffrey Viel to Ducks for Conditional 2026 Fourth-Rounder

Boston gains roster flexibility with a new 2026 draft chip following a depth move.

Overview

  • The selection going to Boston will be the earlier of Anaheim’s two 2026 fourth-round picks, originally acquired from Detroit and Philadelphia.
  • Boston recalled defenseman Billy Sweezey from AHL Providence on an emergency basis after Andrew Peeke’s lower-body exit, with coach Marco Sturm indicating Peeke is not expected to be out long term.
  • Viel, 28, appeared in 10 games for the Bruins this season with zero points and 30 penalty minutes, and he is signed through this season at a $775,000 cap hit.
  • Anaheim has not announced whether Viel will join the NHL roster or report to the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.
  • The Ducks also placed Troy Terry on injured reserve retroactive to Jan. 6 and recalled forward Sam Colangelo from San Diego.
