BRS to Move High Court Over Alleged Voter-Roll Fraud in Jubilee Hills Bypoll

Election officials dispute the allegations as the bypoll proceeds under the Election Commission’s schedule.

Overview

  • BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao said the party will petition the Telangana High Court on Wednesday, citing no meaningful response from the Election Commission a day after filing a detailed complaint.
  • The party alleges 19,000–23,000 bogus or duplicate entries in Jubilee Hills, pointing to multiple EPIC IDs for individuals and large clusters of registrations at single addresses, which it says were largely added in a recent updation.
  • BRS submitted booth-level lists and examples to Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy, demanding deletion of disputed entries, a probe, and action against officials it accuses of collusion.
  • The District Electoral Officer publicly rejected claims that the cited names were newly enrolled, stating they have been on final rolls since 2023, while BRS insists recent additions inflated the rolls.
  • The bypoll, necessitated by the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, is set for November 11 with nominations due October 21–24; BRS has fielded Maganti Sunitha and Congress has nominated V. Naveen Yadav as both sides escalate campaigning.
