BRS Steps Up Telangana Offensive With Defection Petitions, RRR Drive and ‘Bulldozer’ Warning

The party moves to disqualify defectors to force by-elections ahead of local polls.

Overview

  • On Monday, BRS MLAs G. Jagadish Reddy, P. Kaushik Reddy and Dr. K. Sanjay filed affidavits with the Assembly secretary seeking disqualification of colleagues who joined Congress and said by-elections were inevitable.
  • At a Jubilee Hills cadre meet, K. T. Rama Rao accused the government and HYDRAA of weekend demolitions targeting the poor, warned a Congress win in the bypoll would “license” more razing, and pledged to rebuild a supporter’s home.
  • Meeting RRR-affected villagers from Nalgonda, Suryapet, Gajwel and Sangareddy, KTR alleged the alignment was altered after the election to hurt farmers, urged village resolutions and a boycott of local body polls, and said BRS will raise the issue in Parliament and the Assembly.
  • Separately, Harish Rao distributed essentials to about 1,500 flood-hit families in Kasturbanagar and alleged the state released no compensation and failed on pre-monsoon drain clearing, citing several flood deaths in Hyderabad.
  • On Tuesday, Harish Rao also pressed the Centre and the state to clear long-pending commissions for ration dealers and to implement the Congress promise of a Rs 5,000 monthly honorarium.
