Overview
- Telangana received only 3.06 lakh tonnes of the 5 lakh tonnes of urea allocated for April–June, creating a 1.94 lakh-tonne shortfall at the start of the Kharif season.
- Subsidised urea prices have risen from ₹266.50 to ₹325 per 45-kg bag, forcing farmers into long queues and straining loan-dependent cultivation under the Rythu Bharosa scheme.
- BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao demanded an immediate inquiry into the shortage and alleged black-market rackets run by middlemen and power brokers.
- BRS MLC K. Kavitha accused the Congress government of mismanagement, claiming fertiliser and seed stocks have dwindled so severely that they are now sold through police stations.
- Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao has written to the Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Ministry and Telangana’s Union MPs for emergency urea supplies to address the ongoing deficit.
