Overview

  • On July 15, BRS leaders B. Vinod Kumar, Soma Bharat Kumar and S. Bharath Kumar met SEC Rani Kumudini to demand deletion of Chapati Roller, Camera, Ship and other lookalike symbols
  • The representation cites more than 72,409 votes lost to lookalike icons in 2023, with the Chapati Roller alone diverting over 60,000 ballots
  • BRS warns that elderly and visually impaired voters were especially misled by near-identical symbols on ballot papers and EVM screens
  • State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini assured that the commission will review the request and take action before the upcoming rural and urban local body elections
  • The party is also seeking stricter allocation guidelines for future free symbols and an opportunity to appear in person to present its case
