Overview

• BRO has earmarked Rs 1,152.66 crore for Project Swastik works in Sikkim to expand strategic and civilian connectivity.
• Priority corridors include the Western Sikkim Highway plus upgrades on NH‑310A and NH‑310AG to speed Armed Forces mobilization.
• Upcoming works will add tunnels and major bridges and use geotextiles, advanced surfacing, slope stabilization and avalanche mitigation to enhance durability and reduce upkeep.
• Project Swastik introduced welfare measures for Casual Paid Labourers, including improved living conditions, protective clothing, insulated shelters, sanitation facilities and health camps.
• Marking its 65th year in Gangtok, the unit reported a cumulative 1,412 km of roads and 80+ bridges built, with 350+ km of roads, 26 bridges and one tunnel delivered in the past decade despite GLOFs, cloudbursts and Teesta flooding.
