City inspectors attribute the death to a panel torn from a carport by high winds.

Overview

  • The fatal incident happened just after 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 3100 Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn.
  • According to the Department of Buildings, wind ripped a panel from the top of a carport in an outdoor lot and it traveled about 20 feet before striking the woman.
  • She was taken to a hospital and later died, city officials said.
  • Authorities temporarily closed a nearby Q train entrance and issued a partial vacate order for the parking lot as a safety measure.
  • The storm brought more than 100 downed trees citywide, unofficial peak gusts of 42 mph in Brooklyn, and a Coastal Flood Warning in effect through 8 p.m. Monday for New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County.
