Overview
- An internal preliminary review found Officer Zachary Baumtrog’s use of force and the actions of Baumtrog and Officer Jay Bloyer consistent with Brooklyn Park Police Department policy and training.
- The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said the officers arrived around 3:30 a.m., saw Vance Boelter shoot Mark Hortman through a doorway, and that Baumtrog fired in response.
- Police say the officers pulled Mark Hortman from the doorway and did not know at that moment that other victims were inside the home.
- Brooklyn Park and partnering agencies have requested an independent third-party after-action review of the full response.
- Boelter has been indicted on state and federal counts, pleaded not guilty, is due in federal court on Nov. 25, and could face the death penalty if convicted on federal charges.
