Brooklyn Brownstone Fire Claims Lives of Three Family Members, Injures Over a Dozen

Difficult and dangerous operation to extinguish the fire, cause still under investigation

The fire broke out in a three-story brownstone home in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2023, and took about two hours to be brought under control.
Three family members, identified by neighbors as a grandmother, her son, and grandson, were critically injured in the fire and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In addition to the three fatalities, 14 other people were injured in the fire, including a firefighter who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The fire was described as a 'very difficult, dangerous operation' by John Esposito, chief of fire operations, due to heavy fire on all three floors of the building.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by fire marshals, and no immediate cause has been determined.
