Brookfield to Build Asia’s Largest GCC in Powai With $1 Billion-Plus Investment

The Powai campus advances Maharashtra's GCC push pending a formal state agreement.

Overview

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Brookfield will invest more than $1 billion in a nearly 2 million sq ft Global Capability Centre, with an MoU to be signed soon.
  • Brookfield stated the project will be built on a six-acre site in Powai with 20 lakh sq ft of lettable space targeted by 2029, in partnership with BS Sharma and through an agreement with MMRDA.
  • The company said it has signed a 20-year lease with a multinational bank as an anchor tenant and plans to meet the centre’s energy needs entirely from renewable power.
  • The state estimates the facility will create about 15,000 direct jobs and support another 30,000 indirectly.
  • Maharashtra is pushing to become a GCC hub under a new policy targeting 400,000 jobs, focusing on Mumbai and Pune and engaging firms such as FedEx for additional centres.
