Abraham Lincoln's bronze top hat, part of a statue in Louisville's Waterfront Park, has been stolen.
The hat, which weighs up to 40 pounds, was securely bolted to the rock next to the statue and its removal would have required significant effort.
Louisville Metro Police are investigating the theft and park officials are reviewing video recordings for any suspicious activity.
The statue's sculptor, Ed Hamilton, first learned of the theft on Saturday and has expressed hope that the hat will be returned.
If the hat is not returned, Hamilton plans to replace it and secure it even more firmly.
