• Police say 1-year-old Imani Mitchell died Friday, a week after officers found her semi-conscious on Aug. 28 in a South Bronx apartment, and the NYPD has ruled the death a homicide.
• A criminal complaint alleges Jerome Thomas, 19, admitted striking the child twice on the side of the head with a “heavy hand.”
• Hospital and court records describe extensive subdural hemorrhaging, dangerous intracranial pressure and a decompressive surgery in which part of the skull was removed, followed by ventilator support.
