Bronx Man Loses Fingers in Machete Attack While Protecting Dog

A 34-year-old man was maimed by an enraged dog owner in a violent confrontation in New York City; the assailant remains at large.

Tayquon Young, 34, was attacked with a machete while walking his dog, Chanel, in the Bronx on Friday morning after a dispute with another dog owner escalated.
The assailant, angered by an interaction between the two dogs, threatened to decapitate Young's dog before severing four of his fingers with a 30-inch machete.
Doctors successfully reattached three of Young's fingers after 13 hours of surgery, but the fourth finger could not be recovered.
Bystanders reportedly recorded the incident on their phones rather than assisting Young, who had to ask for help in calling 911.
Police have released surveillance images of the suspect, described as a man in his 40s or 50s, and are continuing their investigation to locate him.
