Bronx Man Charged With Girlfriend’s Murder After Police Reject Moped Robbery Tale

Detectives cite forensic evidence that contradicts his account of a roadside attack near City Island.

Overview

  • Franklin Batallas, 44, was arrested Friday and charged with murder, two counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
  • The victim, 30-year-old Anthonella Contreras Linarez, was stabbed multiple times on Sept. 17 near Park Drive and City Island Road and was pronounced dead at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.
  • NYPD officials say Batallas fabricated a story that two men on a moped attacked the couple while he stepped away from their car.
  • Investigators developed evidence at odds with that account, including Batallas’ hair reportedly found on the victim’s hands and scrutiny of his forearm wounds, according to police sources.
  • Police say the couple was in the process of breaking up; Batallas was treated in stable condition and was expected to be arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court.
