Bronx Man Charged With Attempted Murder in Grand Central Subway Stabbing

Overview

  • Gavin Ferguson, 30, of the Bronx, was charged Thursday with attempted murder and felony assault for stabbing two men at Grand Central Terminal during the Wednesday morning rush hour.
  • The attack began on a southbound No. 5 train approaching Grand Central around 7:20 a.m. before spilling onto the mezzanine, where Ferguson confronted a 28-year-old commuter and a 32-year-old bystander.
  • Both victims were stabbed in the abdomen, upper body and buttocks and were treated at Bellevue Hospital Center, where they remain in stable condition.
  • Ferguson fled the scene but was spotted and arrested by an officer near Second Avenue and East 40th Street shortly after the assault.
  • In response to this and other recent subway attacks, city officials have increased NYPD patrols and volunteers from the Guardian Angels have resumed monitoring to bolster commuter safety.
