Overview
- Police say a father reported his 18-year-old son robbed his mother and older brother at gunpoint on Van Nest Avenue before fleeing to a building near East Gun Hill Road and Paulding Avenue.
- At the second location, officers established a perimeter for a suspected barricade, made contact at the door and then heard three shots from inside the apartment.
- The suspect opened the door and ran into officers, a struggle followed, an officer fell and struck his head, and another officer fired, hitting the teen in the lower back and right arm.
- Both the injured officer and the suspect, identified by ABC7 as Antonio Morales, were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where the officer is stable and the suspect remains in critical condition.
- A loaded firearm was recovered from the suspect’s bag, the NYPD says the teen has a significant criminal history, and the Force Investigation Division is reviewing the incident.
