Denver announced Thursday that Luke Wattenberg went to IR after appearing on the injury report with a shoulder issue and missing practice.
NFL IR rules require a minimum four-game absence, leaving him eligible only for a potential Super Bowl if the Broncos keep the top seed or for the AFC title game if they fall to a lower seed.
Alex Forsyth, who started against the Chiefs on Christmas, is expected to handle center duties for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs.
Wattenberg had played every offensive snap through the first 15 games and started 28 straight, anchoring a line that has allowed a league-low 19 sacks.
The move comes roughly a month after Wattenberg signed a four-year, $48 million extension.
