Broadway Star Gavin Creel to Be Honored with Public Memorial and Full Marquee Tribute

The Tony-winning actor's life and legacy will be celebrated at New York's St. James Theatre on December 2, with livestream access for audiences in the U.S. and U.K.

Gavin Creel, a Tony and Olivier Award-winning Broadway actor, passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 48 after battling a rare and aggressive cancer.
A public memorial service is scheduled for December 2 at 4 p.m. EST at the St. James Theatre in New York City, where Creel starred in 'Into the Woods.'
The memorial will be livestreamed on MCC Theater's YouTube channel in the U.S. and the London Theatre's channel in the U.K., but will not be available for on-demand viewing after the event.
Broadway theaters will dim their marquees on December 3 at 6:45 p.m. EST in Creel's honor, following public advocacy for a full tribute after initial plans for partial dimming.
Creel was celebrated for his roles in productions such as 'Hello, Dolly!' and 'The Book of Mormon,' as well as his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and contributions to theater charities.
