Broadway Cares Launches Fall Red Bucket Drive as Shows Begin Post-Curtain Appeals

Donations collected by casts will fund meals, medication and services for people with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses.

Overview

  • The six-week campaign runs October 24 through December 7 with Broadway, Off-Broadway and touring productions inviting audience gifts in lobby Red Buckets after performances.
  • The effort culminates with Red Bucket Follies at the New Amsterdam Theatre on December 8 at 4:30 p.m. and December 9 at 2 p.m., with tickets available at BroadwayCares.org.
  • Early participants include & Juliet, Hamilton, The Lion King, Wicked, The Outsiders, Six, Waiting for Godot, Heathers, Little Shop of Horrors and multiple national tours, with additional shows joining next week.
  • Executive director Danny Whitman cites funding pressures on vital programs and says contributions are converted into direct care including meals and medication.
  • Since 1989, 33 Red Bucket editions have raised $104 million for Broadway Cares, which reports more than $300 million awarded in grants, including $5.3 million raised at the 2024 Follies.
