Broadview Declares Civil Emergency Over Threats to Officials

The order moves tonight’s board session online after officials reported a bomb threat plus a death threat to the FBI.

Overview

  • Mayor Katrina Thompson said the declaration follows credible threats against village leaders and property, including a Sept. 4 bomb threat and an Oct. 13 death threat against her.
  • Village officials shifted Monday’s Board of Trustees meeting to a remote format, with written public comments to be read into the record by Village Clerk Kevin McGrier.
  • Broadview police reported that out-of-town demonstrators tried to storm Village Hall on Nov. 14 and threatened to shut down the upcoming board meeting.
  • Authorities said 21 people were arrested during Friday’s clashes near the ICE facility, and four officers were injured, including two from Broadview, an Illinois state trooper, and a Cook County sheriff’s deputy.
  • Thompson said the emergency order is intended to preserve continuity of governance and will remain in effect until she determines the threats have subsided.
