BRO Completes 19,400-Foot Mig La Road in Ladakh, Overtaking Umling La as World’s Highest Motorable Route

The Likaru–Mig La–Fukche link provides a third axis from Hanle to Fukche near the LAC.

Overview

  • Project Himank built the route in eastern Ladakh, with a BRO team led by Chief Engineer Brig Vishal Srivastava marking the summit by hoisting the national flag.
  • The pass sits close to the Line of Actual Control and the alignment connects to the CDFD road at Fukche, according to reports.
  • Construction on the 64-kilometre Likaru–Fukche road began in August 2023 with an estimated budget of about Rs 520 crore.
  • BRO says the new corridor will bolster logistics and provide a lift to tourism and nearby frontier villages.
  • Black-topping work is still under way even as the milestone was announced on X by the Army and the BRO.
