Overview

• The collision occurred around 2pm Tuesday near the Santa Pola lighthouse junction as the car heading toward Alicante crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a motorhome, according to the Guardia Civil.
• The driver, an unnamed 72-year-old British woman, initially survived but went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene despite resuscitation efforts.
• The motorhome’s driver, a 54-year-old Belgian man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
• A woman traveling in the motorhome, identified as the driver’s wife, was unharmed in the crash.
