Overview

  • On June 21, Liam Byrne, 24, launched a wingsuit flight from Gitschen mountain at about 2,400 metres and crashed into a rocky outcrop near 2,100 metres after deviating from his planned route.
  • The Uri Cantonal Police and the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland have opened a joint investigation and are appealing for witnesses to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
  • Byrne had completed more than 4,000 wingsuit jumps over a ten-year career and captured the British wingsuit flying championship title in 2022.
  • He was featured in the BBC documentary “The Boy Who Can Fly” and began pursuing extreme sports as a child, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro at age 12 and qualifying as a skydiving instructor by 19.
