British Soldiers Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash During NATO Exercise in Estonia

Twelve soldiers were hospitalized after a highway pile-up caused by snowy conditions, with eight airlifted to the UK for further treatment.

  • A total of 17 people, including 12 British soldiers, were injured in a six-vehicle crash on the Tallinn-Narva highway in Estonia on Friday, November 22.
  • The incident occurred during a blizzard when two civilian cars collided at an intersection, triggering a chain reaction involving three minibuses carrying British troops and another civilian vehicle.
  • The soldiers were part of Operation Cabrit, the UK's NATO mission aimed at deterring Russian aggression in the Baltic region.
  • Eight of the injured soldiers were flown to the UK on an RAF C-17 medevac jet for further treatment, with five discharged and three remaining hospitalized in Birmingham.
  • The crash took place approximately 20 miles from the Russian border as the troops were returning to their base in Tapa, Estonia's largest military base.
