Overview

  • On July 29 at around 8.45 pm local time, Ameiya Del Brocco, 13, and her brother Ricardo Junior Del Brocco, 11, were swept away by strong currents off Llarga Beach in Salou.
  • Their father, Ricardo Sr, entered the water attempting to save them and was later rescued unconscious before being hospitalised by emergency services.
  • Lifeguards had ended their patrol less than an hour earlier, and a yellow flag warning of rough seas had been flying all day at the beach.
  • A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to fund repatriation of the children’s bodies to the UK and support their grieving family.
  • Catalonia’s Civil Protection agency confirmed these were the 15th and 16th beach fatalities since mid-June, and the UK Foreign Office is providing support to the bereaved family.
