British Museum Backs 18-Month Loan of Vrindavani Vastra to Assam in 2027

The agreement requires a new JSW-built facility meeting international standards plus a sovereign guarantee from the Centre.

  • The state has allotted land at the Sericulture Farm in Khanapara, with JSW Group to construct the dedicated museum and hand it over as a CSR project.
  • A sovereign guarantee from the Government of India has been requested to assure the artefact’s safe return, and the chief minister has written to the Centre to secure the undertaking.
  • An interim digital program will show a high-quality display of the Vastra at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in February 2026, with online access planned, as talks continue on potential displays including at Mumbai’s CSMVS.
