British Man, 36, Dies in Istanbul After Hair Transplant and Dental Work

Authorities have opened an inquiry as the cause of death remains unconfirmed.

Overview

  • The man was named locally as Mentor Rama, a British citizen of Albanian nationality.
  • He reportedly underwent a hair procedure in Fulya, then had dental treatment in Ayazaga the next day during a two-day visit.
  • He fell ill at his hotel in Sisli and was taken to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, where he died at about 4:30pm on November 11.
  • A forensic autopsy was carried out at the Forensic Medicine Institute, no cause has been released, and his body was returned to his family.
  • The case renews scrutiny of Turkey’s hair-transplant industry, which treats over a million patients a year, as UK officials count at least 28 British deaths after elective procedures since 2019.
